Survive and thrive during an unstable time.

Surviving an unstable time

Learning how to make your business survive and thrive during an unstable time has been challenging for business owners. I know it caused me many sleepless nights at the beginning of the pandemic. So, I’m going to share the learnings from numerous business owners on surviving and thriving that has kept us going during the lockdown.

How to survive and thrive during an unstable time

Ask for help

Accepting that we need help during a crisis is the last thing we often do when it should be one of the first things. As a result, we exhaust a lot of energy trying to fix problems instead of learning from those around us. A quick stop for directions would have been beneficial instead of spending hours driving through motorways pre google map days.

Many people in many industries are willing to share information if you remain teachable. The key is to find the right people to talk to then adapt the advice to your situation.

Time is important during an unstable time. So is acting on your learnings.

Adapt

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one more responsive to change.” Charles Darwin

This is probably the best quote I have heard on our current situation. We’ve all had to move our businesses online to survive in the last year. The crucial stage we’re currently going through is how we adapt to coming out of the lockdown. Most people are looking forward to meeting up with friends and family, so focusing all your energy on staying online could be a mistake.

Small businesses have an advantage here; you can make quick decisions based on your current situation, while bigger organisations have numerous meetings.

Don’t bury your head in the sand.

You’re not going to make your business survive if you bury your head in the sand at a time like this. It’s not a time to play the victim; it’s the time to accept your current lot and roll up your sleeves. One way of coping is to find things to be grateful for in your situation. You can’t be grateful and depressed at the same time.
